DAVE WAKELING brought the English Beat to a small club in Honolulu this past week...it was a hot, sweaty 80s dance fest that brought back memories of pegged pants, big hair and black eyeliner... AND 2 NIGHTS LATER, I MET THEM AT THE MARDI GRAS CARNIVAL ON THE STREETS OF CHINATOWN!!!

Another fantastic assignment with the Honolulu Weekly. Here's the link to the article: http://honoluluweekly.com/cover/2011/03/keeping-the-country-country/ The Matoons, a lovely couple from Punalu'u, helped to start the "keep the country country" campaign on the island of Oahu back in the 70s. They are still going strong as community activists and voices of sustainable and smart growth in the rural regions of Oahu, and I had the privilege of meeting them, talking to them, and snapping some images of them in their garden and "front yard", the Kamehaha Highway Punalu'u Bridge construction project.....
